Lots of smoke,smells of oil!(2.0tdi BRE)

I got a lot of grey smoke, that smells of oil when I drive now.:biglaugh:
Driving home in dark last night, the engine seemed to splutter a little,when I got home i noticed the smoke and smell
This morning I checked the oil, was low. Coolant ok. No signs of any leaks.
But the coolant has been low a few times, there must be a leak there, i havent had a chance to check it.
It drives ok, but not sure if turbo is working cos i dont want to try it with all the smoke,i only went down the road a bit.
Only code that came up is the usual P0234 overboost.
Are there any checks i can do with VCDS?

Im suspecting its a blown head gasket, or EGR cooler.
I.ll try to join the coolant pipes off the egr cooler, to see if it runs ok then. If i can find no leaks from the egr cooler, I'll assume its the head gasket and try a sealant.

Could I run it without the egr cooler completely if i blocked both holes off with plates? It looks like a weld may have failed. I realise that engine light will come on (unless i delete the egr via the ecu), but otherwise is it a problem while i fix the rest?

This has been welded before, looks like a leak there. Thats the EGR cooler pipe.38835

bypass the cooler see if that fixes your problem if it does replace the cooler do not block off cooler and egr it will block up your dpf filter.
