View Full Version : Egr valve leaking oil out of the little port hole in pic - normal?

My EGR appears to leak from the following little hole circled in red. It has leaked from here on 2 Egr's , my original and my replacement oem Pierburg one. It creates an awful mess that runs down the coolant and intercooler hose and the oil has knackered part of my wiring loom.
Should they leak from this port, should there be oil in this port? It looks like this port might be more related to the diaphragm side of the valve but maybe not? Can anyone confirm?
Has anyone managed to successfully divert this dirty oil without removing the Egr itself. There's is nothing protruding from this port to attach a hose onto, maybe if I threaded the hole and screwed in a little nozzle, would this risk damaging anything?
What would happen if I just blocked it up with silicon or such, I'm guessing it's there for a reason and the oil would just build up within the Egr or related parts then instead?

Anyone got any ideas, or experience with this issue on their own engine and how you solved it?

There is always a little oil vapour in the charge air system and as the valve wears it allows a little air to leak past the valve stem which is why that hole is there to stop oil being forced into the diaphragm so it's nothing to worry about.

Cheers for the explanation, I often wondered what that hole was for, thought it was some sort of breather alright. It makes an awful mess, on my BKD engine anyways.
