Would like to know if anybody with the 1.5TSI could tell me if they like or dislike this engine and what they think of it.

I’m scunnered with my B8 2.0TDI which has been nothing but a bugbear with nobody getting to the bottom of what is a horrible and totally unrefined heap and planning on replacing it. If I thought for a minute I could get another 2.0TDI which was refined and responsive I would consider it. But that’s taking a risk. I’m not a fan of the 1.6TDI which is slower for a start and any other Taxi I have been in whether it’s VW or Skoda with that engine the engine management light is always on and heard of owners having some problems with them (EGR, Injectors, Lambda sensors etc) so best to avoid.

In the Taxi game the only Owners I know with Petrols have the 1.0 Octavia which runs on 3 cylinders. Jury is still out on this engine for high mileage.

The 1.5 DSG is what I would consider but don’t know how good this engine is for constant daily driving.

That engine has drawn a lot of criticism because it is mapped so lean it drives like a dog.

Is this the 1.0 or 1.5 crasher?

The 1.5 as in your title

Been driving the 1.5tsi Octavia (manual) past few months and must say it’s decent enough to drive. The most noticeable thing is at idle is you don’t hear the engine (similar to smaller 1.0tsi). Even when accelerating hard it’s still not noisy. Only time you hear the engine more is motorway driving which it can’t match the 2.0tdi which is better at higher speeds. I do find though the 1.5tsi can be thirsty even driving around town it’s only in the early to mid 30s mpg. Just think on a larger car (Passat/Superb) you would constantly have it in Sports mode even then with a load might not match the larger diesel. For refinement though far better than both 1.6 & 2.0 diesel.

Strange, my B8 Passat is responsive and pretty refined for a diesel. I gave a lift to a friend who does a lot of driving, he (with a surprised and slightly disappointed look on his face) said it was noticeably more comfortable and quieter than his E-class Merc!
