I dropped my 2020 Golf Mk8 in for its annual service this week and was told by the service centre there were 4 major software updates required as part of a VW service campaign (91CU) as well as a service campaign related to replacing the steering wheel (48Q5) for travel assist issues I believe.

Up to now my Golf experienced sporadic issues including:
- the infotainment system restarting by itself
- blank screen for apple car-play occurring
- cruise control sometimes thinking it was a left-hand drive car resulting in the undertake prevention system kicking in for cars in middle/left lanes when actually overtaking on the overtaking lane (a very annoying issue!!!)
- favourite destinations added on the We-connect app never synchronised with the navigation system in the vehicle
- travel assist errors randomly being thrown from time to time

The updates themselves took 4 days to complete in the service centre. I now have software version 1896 (Hardware H56) and Display unit software 3074 (Hardware H40)

Since the update i’ve not done a lot of driving yet, however I’ve observed that:
- the infotainment system loads very quickly when I start the car and is quicker to use in general
- destinations I add as favourites on the we-connect app appear as favourites in the navigation system as soon as I start the car
- I can use the “Hello Volkswagen” voice control function to now “bring me to [location] - including the newly sync’d favourites from the we-connect app.
- I’ve not had any apple car-play issues, yet
- I’ve not had any undertake prevention issues whilst using cruise control nor any travel assist errors (YET)

I’m hoping this is the fix that finally sorts out the gremlins I’ve experienced for the past two years! Anyone else find if these updates sorted things for them?

Just collected my car from its service, also a 2020 MK8, had the same recall 91CU and 90S8 service campaign.

Took them 2 days to complete the updates.
Not driven it much but as far as I can tell

- All carplay issue's fixed, used to have a sound issue where the speakers would switch or go a little off after 2 mins of driving, a simple pause and play would fix it. This has been fixed, luckily not had the blank carplay screen for a while.
- Infotainment system is more responsive, Haven't tried using Hello Volkwagen as its not a feature I use much, but the reverse camera instantly displays and is seamless. Before was not always instantly responsive. On car start the screen instantly boots so far much faster than before.
- I don't typically use the ACC system a lot but did have some random speed limit glitch which caused the car to brake, hopefully this is all fixed now.
- General pinging of Travel assist or Front assist were not too common for myself but not a single ping on the drive home.

Seems like the have finally gotten to grips with the software

Hi, I’ve had my Mk 8 GTI now for almost two years and have had every problem mentioned on this forum previously!
Probably the worst being the travel assist pinging and the ACC changing between mph and kmph causing the car to brake suddenly.

Have been back to dealer numerous times with no fix.

Was due for oil service last week and I listed all the car faults to them. Dealer told me there was a major upgrade to be done and this should fix everything.

When I went back to pick up dealer told me that VW have pulled the update and it wasn’t done. Told me that the travel assist fault can only by fixed with a steering wheel replacement (of course there are none in uk and is on back order).

They hope that by the time a new wheel comes in the software upgrade will be sorted and can be done at same time.

This was the first time the dealer has ever apologised for all the issues and they have applied to VW to provide me with a bottle of whiskey as a “good will” gesture!!!!!!

Sent an email complaining to VW customer services but not holding my breath for a response.

Really starting to p*** me off!!!!

It's been a while but, the software updates appear to be very significant, especially in view of the unusual behavior you have been witnessing. It seems that these updates along with VW's steering wheel replacement campaign will make your rides smoother and less exciting, which is a good thing. It's incredible how technology, even in cars, needs regular upkeep in the form of updates and modifications. I find that this situation is similar to how niche online marketplaces (https://seclgroup.com/development-of-a-large-niche-marketplace/) are constantly evolving. In my opinion, websites must be updated often to satisfy user needs and keep up with technology developments, much as your golf needs updates to function at its best.
