Hi,
not sure if this is an issue solely relating to T-Roc or if other models are affected. Brother in law has a T-Roc with around 45,000miles that he uses for his job as a driving instructor and as his own car. The handbrake began sticking intermittently 2 years ago and lately more frequently. He put the car into the local VW dealer where he bought the car and they said the h/brake was ok. On contacting VW UK they were told to check the clutch. They dropped the gearbox, removed the clutch and although there was a small amount of wear on the plate, they replaced the clutch as apparently the biting point of the clutch is what determines when the electronic h/brake releases. It appears there is no way for the sensor/switch to auto adjust to compensate for wear and therefore clutch replacement is the cure. Seems a bit excessive to have to change a clutch with so few miles on all for the sake of a self adjuster on the pedal or clutch itself. B/in/law has queried the decision and as a former mechanic he understands what he is on about and is trying to take this further with them. He has lost income due to the issue and can’t believe such a simple thing has not been addressed. It appears to be a design fault and should possibly be a recall issue.
On a safety point what is the likelihood/possibility of the h/b actually coming on whilst driving?
Anyone come across this or heard of the issue either on the T-Roc or any other VW models.
Thanks,
Dave.
