Grumbling Air Con!!?!?

Hello. This is my first posting and I'm hoping somebody out there can help. I have a 2002 Mk4 Gttdi 130. 87000 on the clock. Recently there has been a rumbling/whining noise with a little vibration from the engine bay. I thought it was the dual mass fly wheel which had similar symptoms until I replaced it last year, and didnt think a new one would fail so quickly. Anyways I turned the climate control off using the fan button and lo the noise disappeared so I'm guessing its air con related!!! Question. Has anybody had the same problems and was it the compressor pump or the compressor clutch assembly? Is the fix one that could be done at home or is it a garage jobby? Wheres the best place to source (cheap) parts (the cars on the market in a few weeks)?

Any help would be appreciated.
