Hi all,

Just a quick post as I hope to have a recording of the noise soon.

Basically, 2018 Passat GTE with 115000 miles, on a short dealer warranty.

On light acceleration with the engine, I hear a consistent tapping in the 1700 to 2000 rpm range. It does not speed up with RPM changes. I had thought it was the cabin fan blade fouling as its so consistent in speed.

Its getting louder now though, and where the speed does not change, on slightly heavier acceleration, the sound gets "deeper".

Its loud enough for me to record it, which I'll do later.

The dealer I got it from is a no frills one, so I want to make good use of the warranty period.

The car is in their garage tomorrow as they allegedly missed a leaking front shock, so I'd like to go in armed with ideas of what this could be.

Thanks for help on this!

Hi all,

I did some tests, and it turns out it does speed up with the revs, here is a recording:

And here is a recording of the car stationary in a parking spot, with me revving it a bit.

Hopefully the recordings shed some light on what I am on about, better than my initial post could.

Thanks again
