View Full Version : Question C6 2007 - MMI dead

Hi all,
New here, so please be gentle!
For the first time in my life, I’ve bought an Audi - so I’ve got lots to learn :)
I’ve bought a 2007 C6 Avant with a dead MMI. There appears to be water in the tailgate, and I did read somewhere (before I purchased) that a common fault is for the rear washer to leak and take out the MMI - so I’m hoping that’s the problem!
The screen inside is completely dead and the buttons on the console are non-responsive. Other dashboard controls are functional, so I think the issue is solely with the MMI.
Can anyone help me out with the location of the MMI module and how I can go about testing/replacing?
Thanks in advance!

The front information display and operating unit control unit -J523- is behind the glovebox, it is powered from fuse 10 in the left side dash fuse board

Ok, so likely not related to the washer fluid leak in the tailgate?

Water in the tailgate is usually a pipe connection. Take off the trim and you should see the issue.

Ok, I’ve followed this guide (Audi: MMI Problems Diagnostic | Audiworld (https://www.audiworld.com/how-tos/a/audi-mmi-problems-diagnostic-423457)) and can’t pin point the issue down to any single module.
The guide ends by saying that the fault is likely the ‘main MMI module’ but it doesn’t explain where this is. Can anyone help? I’m assuming it’s behind the glovebox, but there’s a few modules back there and none of them (apart from the little black Temic one) appear to habe fibre going to them. I just want to get it off so that I can retrieve the part number.

Also, would VCDS help pin point the cause of the problem?

Yes it is behind the glovebox, have you checked the fuse? I have seen the radio unit in the boot get wet and blow the fuse but I would have to check the specific diagram against your VIN as there are variations due to date and equipment

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I’ve checked all the fuses in the passenger side of the dash and the boot and I’ve checked that all of the modules are recieving power, except for the control panel - so that’s my next step. I can’t actually find a radio module with a fuse in the back of it anywhere. I’ve checked in the boot sides, behind the dash and under the seats. Anywhere else??

Fantastic, got it - thank you. It was more tucked away than I expected.
I know that this is a common issue. Do people tend to replace them with 4F0 910 732 HX?
I’ve looked online and direct replacements seem to be plentiful and cheap. I understand that I meed to get the same SW prefix and complications with component protection.
I can’t seem to find anyone who sells refurbished/warrantied items, so I’m guessing it might be a bit of a lottery now to replace it.

Ok, so I’ve bought VCDS and a ross-tech cable.
Plugging it in and doing a scan of the optical bus diagnostics, I get faults for:
19-CAN gateway
07-Control head
0E-Media Player
77-Telephone
47-Sound System
56-Radio
37-Navigation
When I go into each of the controllers to retrieve the fault code, I just get an error message saying ‘no response from controller’
Any ideas?

Could you do a full scan and post it?

Thanks for your ongoing help Crasher, I really appreciate it.
I've bought VCDS and a ross-tech cable on a netbook which won't connect to the internet - no idea why! So, I'm typing it out :aargh4:
I've just done a summary - but none of the codes appeared to be recent and I don't have any MIL's on currently either. Do let me know if you want any of the freeze frame or part number info for any of the codes or modules.
Thanks again!

Please don't cut the VIN out of the scan, it is useful and not subject to GDPR, remove the reg if you wish as that is personal data. What is the VIN. Do a full clear and run the car for a few days and do another full scan and post it in full.

Sorry - I've not intentionally cut anything out, I can't copy and paste the scan, so I've typed out the elements which I thought were useful. If there's anything particularly helpful missing, then please let me know.
I'll do another scan in a few days and post again.
The VIN is WAUZZZ4F58N042353
Thanks :D

The way I do it is to install a generic text only virtual printer and then print the report and click print as text but you can also use the save function and open the file in Word. I realised I already had the VIN, too many irons in the fire.

Ok, so I reset my codes and I’ve driven the car around for 4 days since. All of the codes have now cleared except for two:
005491 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144) P1573 - 001 - Open Circuit
00384 - Optical Databus 011 - Open Circuit
I am still getting “Cannot be reached” for:
07-Control Head
0E-Media Player
37-Navigation
47-Sound System
56-Radio
77-Telephone
The OBD scan for that module just returns ‘Error’ for electrical and optical for all of the modules.

All those not reached are on the infotainment bus and the optical bus is shown as being open, I can't look at the workshop info at the moment as my copy died and I am waiting for a new one. The engine mount is easy.
