Hello,

I recently lost the only key i had to my Audi A3 2004 and had to use the AA to have a replacement key made.

During the call out the guy managed to get new key to start the car a couple of times and run, but each time it was turned off the car went back into safe mode.
He said he could do no more as there was an issue with the car.

A few months back i had an issue with the immobiliser stopping the car running and i found a blown fuse which i replaced and then had no other issues at all since.
The car wasn't going into safe mode back then either.

So, having tried the fixes i found on here (disconnecting battery, leaving key in for 20 mins, turning key on and off in ignition etc) it still remains in safe mode and i'm at a loss.

Would doing this reset revert it back to the original lost key? The key works in the ignition and the dash lights up and it starts (then stops) so i'm thinking the new key is actually programmed successfully to my car? He said he couldn't programme the remote locking for the key so obviously i can't try any fixes that involve that.

Does it seem the problem i had a few months back would be the same issue that prevented him to be able to properly programme the new key to my car?

Appreciate any advice!

The new key contains a new chip, this has to be programed into the instrument cluster which contains the factory immobilser. The central locking section of the key has nothing to do with the operation of the immobilser, that is a radio wave signal to the central convenience system whereas the chip is an induction loop energised signal from a coil around the ignition barrel to the instruments. The only correct system that can perform this work is ODIS so either an Audi dealer or a VAG specilsist with ODIS and GEKO security access. Any VAG specilsist with VCDS will be able to program in the remote control matching but when on ODIS this will also be done anyway.

Thanks for your reply and advice. So the AA key assist service would never have been able to do this on an Audi anyway?
