3G and MMI

Hello. I know this is something related to what version MMI I have in the car or something like that, don't quite understand so looking for explanation and options

I shoved a 4G SIM into the dash in my Q7 for use in my mind as the in car hotspot. Genius.
All works, only I just get 2G reported back from the display and don't get 4G connectivity. 2G being just above actually using string and cups, thats not gonna work for hours of Youtube or porn
How do I get 3g through the thing? Do I need to unlock something in the secret green menu? Does my version of ICE do 3/4G anyway?

This might be a silly question, but are you sure the SIM is fully activated? Sometimes you need to put the sim into a phone first, and agree to some activation prompts before it is fully operational. Maybe try putting the sim into a phone or a tablet and see if you are getting 3G/4G access there?

I will try that.. and let you know. There are no silly questions. Vodafone assured me its 4G ready to rock . I think its something MMI based personally.. but willing to try anything - cheers

I used a Vodafone 4G sim in both my 2012 A6 (C7) and 2016 A6 (C7.5). The 2012 connected via 3G and the 2016 via 4G using the same sim. Obviously you don't have an A6, but I'd expect the MMI to be similar. Hoping you manage to get it working!

Thanks mate. I shoved the SIM into my phone and it came up locked which is weird as it does work in the car, just not for data. Maybe the cause. anyway have to go to Vodafone to get the PUK code now as Voda support can't give me it on a PAYG SIM.. onwards.
