Hi,

I have a golf mk6 2.0 se tdi - I believe its the CBDC engine

The car starts and drives fine but after it gets to 90c and you drive it for abit longer, the temperature starts to rise and keeps going up.

Its just had a new Water Pump + Timing belt, Thermo start

Mechanic has told me now that its the head gasket and looking at £900 minimum but I'm not entirely sure it is?

Any advice on what i could check / try ?

There is a casting number on the back of the head, you need to know what this is

Do the coolant hoses get hard when the engine is running ?

If you disconnect the small pipe going to the top of the coolant reservoir, re-direct it into the top of the reservoir with the engine running.
There should be a constant flow of coolant while the engine is running.
This proves the new water pump is working ok.
