Hi

I have had my a4 b8 a long time now, up to 230,000 miles - 2.0 tdi 140 Common Rail 2008 one the early B8s.

Long story short drove home the other day and there was a boost kinda noise (like a leak) car suddenly went a bit limp then was ok said oil pressure low.

Called AA out, they said my car needed 3/4 of a litre top up.

Topped car up and got it started revved fine to 2k etc

Audi main dealers have said the oil pressure switch has "sheared off and no oil pressure checked with a VAG 1342 oil pressure Gauge kit.

Oil leak due to broken oil switch."

Audi couldn't inspect the oil pump as that would be a strip down.

Have got car towed home and have managed to get a replacement oil switch today as car is sitting at home.

Please can someone tell me where the oil switch is - is it likely to be next to the Oil Filter or on the top of the engine bay and what tool is needed to remove it?

Fingers crossed engine is ok as not making any "tappety" noises and starting ok, and also fingers crossed as I pulled over quick enough oil pump might be ok.

Have run Carista OBD reader but no fault codes relating to Oil Pressure Switch or Oil Pump - none that I can find - should there be fault codes for these parts or if they are mechanical
I presume not?

Thanks everyone.

Hi

This is all I know -

audi a4 b8 2.0 tdi CAGA 143bhp

Think it's near the oil filter but not sure and hope it could be just this - but no error codes which I would of thought would come up.

Many thanks.

I can't knock the car having done 230,000 miles, but replacing the oil pump if it's that, is not going to be cost effective, if it's the oil pressure switch great, if not will probably sell the car for spares/repair.

Oil pump if it's that could of "supposedly" caused damage to the engine... but lets see if it's the oil pressure switch 1st.

Should the car throw up an error code on the switch???

Bad news.. oil pressure switch has been replaced, restart car and the minute I rev car too 2000 rpm low pressure warning comes on..

Going to have one more final oil pressure test on the car tomorrow before it's being scrapped as no point changing the oil level sensor if the pressure is low.

Do not run the engine again , welcome to the 77mm Club.

And the stupid low pressure warning that activates only above 2000 rpm .
