Hopefully simple answer, if I wind rear calipers back with VCDS do I then need to manually rotate the pistons to retract them fully?

I ask as I gave away my wind back tool some months ago thinking wont ever need that again!

Thank you

I did the brakes a few weeks back and had to push the brake piston in as the new pads won’t fit over the disc.I did the brake discs as the same time.On my BITDI the rear calliper was a push back and not a rotate back operation. Not sure if yours will be the same. One thing when doing the rears if you are also replacing the discs you won’t have to remove the brake calliper support bracket as there will be enough room to slide the disc out unlike the front. Also good idea to check the slide bolts that they have sufficient grease and that the rubber boots covering them are not split.I actually bought a repair set just in case and did have to replace one of the boots as it had a small tear.
You will also need a very thin 13 or 15mm spanner can’t remember for sure to crack the brake calliper bolts open.

Yes just push them back in. You can use a G clamp or a large water pump pliers depending on what you have, just protect the surface if they are painted. Also check the brake fluid once you have the finished as it will be higher than before so may need some removing

They just push back, I use my ATE. Push back tool I bought for doing fronts a Avery long time ago. If you try and wind back this design of rear caliper it damages them.
