I can’t tell from the brochure whether you can configure the digital display (speedo, rev counter etc) to show the sat nav as standard or whether it’s an option.
Anyone know?
Thanks

to display the maps you require the discover pro navigation system which is an option sadly, there are Reports of newer cars with higher software specs being able to access it, but not definite.

Early Style and Life cars (those built pre the factory shutdown due to Covid) had the ability to display the map in the instrument panel. The Price List dated 1st April 2020 adds the following note:
Please note: When the navigation map is displayed in the Active Info Display the navigation map cannot be displayed on the Discover Navigation’s 10" touch-screen.
The Price List dated 20th October 2020 changes that to:
Please note: The navigation map cannot be displayed on the Digital Cockpit Pro.
It is therefore clearly a feature that was disabled during production, perhaps it was seen to be causing some of the software glitches so was turned off

That's actually not the real answer. It's a combination of different infotainment hardware used before bw 48 2020 and vw ending the "free nav Pro" offer on earlier mk8's.
Actually those two things are linked, the newer cars use different hardware for nav vs NavPro.
There are some mk8 cars that fall between those two events, that have the old hardware and don't have free NavPro. Mine is one of them.
In fact, if my car had been made one day later, I'd have the new hardware and maps in dash....
If you bought a brand new golf today it would have maps in dash.
Vw deny this, but it's true. Plenty of examples of it.
Ps on my car it is technically possible to enable it, but it can only be done using a vw login due to protected computer systems to prevent tampering.

Yes Cheezy113 you are Correct. Thank God when I bought the car (Build week 47 day 2) the Discovery Pro was standard From the Style Model. But with the newer 816D/820D with sw 1788 they also get Wireless Android Auto and Apple/Google map directions on the dashboard and HUD and who knows what else...

Is any of this ever going to be retrofitted to earlier builds? (mine's an early 2000 build without the power mirrors that has wired Android Auto only and will only show the VW satnav on the dash as far as i'm aware)

Very very very unlikely.
Why would they?

So you do not have the maps on the dashboard? Because I have the Pro I get the Dual map display.
A couple of friends have managed to code the infotainment with Odbapp and now have the maps on both displays at the same time.
I have activated the Gtx display and Gte display on my eHybrid Car.

I have the side assist but because my car was built a couple days earlier than the week 48 build I don't get the Exit warning system.
But I managed to activate this function and it works perfectly.
