car will not log me in as user anymore :(

Hi a new issue has developed for me , which could be another visit to the dealers . I got in the car it logged me in guest mode , I have had this before , then select my user account and it says please wait , then nothing happens , car just stays on the please wait screen. Has been like this , doing the same thing every time for a day or so now . Also the app on phone says car is unlocked . With it being easter weekend can not really contact dealer till Tuesday .. I just wonder if there is a button press to fully reboot the screen, shutting car down is not doing it . Also got in today to test and all I get is please wait on screen . not even a guest account log in :)

Ensure that the globe at the top right of the infotainment screen is white and not greyed out - a white globe means that you are connected to VW’s servers.

If it is greyed out, check that your privacy settings are set to least restrictive (share my position) which should connect you. When you are in guest mode, the privacy settings default to most restrictive every time the vehicle is started, which means the car is not connected to VW servers. (It would be more helpful if there was a notification to say that, rather than just a continuous ‘please wait message.)

thank you for reply, issue is I can not get anything on screen apart from please wait and a swirling circle :(

Try a soft reset - hold the on/off button on bottom left of the infotainment screen for about 20 seconds until the infotainment restarts.

Turn it off, turn it back on again... I wonder what the consequences are of disconnecting a Golf 8’s battery?

Thank you, the soft reset allowed me to go to guest user, I could then change the privacy to get the globe up , and then could log in to my user account . I just do not understand why it does this , and causes these issues, . Thank you it helped me

Great! Glad it worked.

As to what caused it - who knows! It might be coincidence, but our car (which has had a very stable connection since its software was updated to 1668 in January 2021) lost connection on Wednesday. I suspect VW servers were down. However, it did not lose the primary user setttings and connectivity restored itself on Thursday.
