Guys if you’ve lost GE overlay go check to see if it’s back? Reading on other forums that’s it’s back. No idea if glitch or complaints have ‘forced Audi’ to restore? Oldest car I’ve read is a 2015 A3 etron which has it back.

I’ve checked mine but it’s not loading up however could also be that I no longer have a sim in the car, but thought it’d still bring the image back. Will try again later, but interested in hearing it any of you have it back.

Did you lose them? I thought 2017MY Q5 was ok?

Edit: Just looked back and some MY17 Q5s were ok and some not depending on when built.

2011 A8 - Satellite mapping back today, it hadn’t worked since Jan 1st.
It has “2021 CNES/AIRBUS” embedded in the overlay and seems to work well.

I noticed that the Google Earth option is now enabled again on my Q7 4M. If I remembered correctly it was greyed out together with all the other Audi Connect options when the license expired, so something might have changed there. However it stuck on loading when turned on (with a data SIM). Would be nice to have it back for show casing the virtual cockpit but what I really miss is the live traffic on the map... Without the live traffic I resorted back to my old Tomtom, not worth paying the license fee just to get the traffic.

Probably Audi recognised, that there is no real need for these services with a Carplay while their customer lost a feature they paid for (to show map on DIS). As I told earlier an Audi manager informed me that they are working on a solition, probably that's what happened, which is a good news for us. Maybe our words reached the sky, or at least Ingolstadt :)

Getting stuck in exactly the same place - it’s starts to load up but then gets stuck or comes up with some message re not possible to connect to Audi Servers despite the Audi Connect services all working fine

I spoke to Audi about this today as I wanted google maps on my 2018. They said they have binned google maps In favour of ‘satellite maps’ and that I’d need a dealer software update before it would work on my car. Waiting to see how much from the supplying dealer.

As others have advised elsewhere, a change of coding on module 5F gives us Google Earth back but gets rid of Audi Connect services: given we have to pay for it now a good trade...

And if you have a Qualcomm equipped MMI rather than Nvidia you can get the update free from some forums; it should be free from the Audi Dealer

I have a 2017 (April) Q7... google maps stopped working Jan, I assumed maybe because my car was almost four years old. I still have Audi Connect. Interesting to know it's gone for everyone.

I'm about to get a new Q7, will that have it? I do miss google maps.

I never use all the Audi connect stuff... do many other people? Like the weather etc.. I would prefer google maps over that.

I’ve booked in with Audi to get the software update that allows satellite maps. The update itself is free, but they said sat maps were part of the subscription.

As the owner of an early MY16 I've got Nvidia :-( and so still can't get the Google Earth maps back, frustrating... However, I have just bought and installed a clever gadget to enable CarPlay over wireless (CPLAY2air) which works really well. Basically you get in the car, it connects and launches CarPlay Google Maps-based nav right off the bat. e.g. picture. If needed I can just drop my phone in the Qi chart area, but tend to keep it in pocket. Flawless and near instant so far... of course also means all the Siri stuff works via steering wheel button too. Lovely. Note: I already had the dealer-installed CarPlay licence, previously working via USB.

Yup bought the same one couple of months or so back. Currently works flawlessly - only issue is whenever wife uses the car her phone doesn’t connect. I’m not sure if it can handle more than one phone - will try it one day. So she just disconnects the device and uses Bluetooth as and when.

Did my longest journey since September last weekend and first with wireless CarPlay and doesn’t suck the phone battery as much as I thought it may when first got it.

Been using the wireless CarPlay for a while now and really like it. I tend to drop the phone in the wireless charger space if I can be bothered to keep it topped up for a long trip. The car tells you the phone is still in the charger when ignition off, nice touch.

Would you get traffic back after the coding change to re enable Google earth? Carplay is nice but no HUD and VC support which is a bit of a shame...

I dont believe thats an option. The problem isn't Audi woke up and though well disable Google maps. The issue is Google closed the API Audi's Google maps implementation was based on in preference to a new API,.one assumes to make more put of it.

Traffic seems to work fine without the Google maps overlay

hey muumipeikko, thanks for the info that makes sense. I read in one of the previous replies that getting Google maps back would disable Audi Connect. With an older vehicle, Audi Connect has already expired with my car so I don't mind that. I was secretly hoping that getting Google maps back would also get traffic data from Google since Audi Connect will no longer work with the change, but it seems that it's not possible.. :(

So my car went in the the planned service this week (they upgraded mmi software) and after it came back instead of just pretending to load Google maps it told me my licence wasn't valid. So today I figured I'd throw £14.5 at the problem and buy a months subscription to the Audi connect licence. After a few restarts up pops satellite overlay!!!! Now I have to stump up 140/year but its nice to have it back.

I'm a June delivered 2017, judging by the software version qualcomm hardware. So their is hope for pre 2018 owners

Hi muumipeikko,

I have this week purchased a 67 plate Q7. I mentioned the satellite/google earth feature not working and the Audi garage haven’t been able to resolve. I do have Audi connect services so if I ask the garage to simply just update the mmi I should in theory have satellite lay over for the sat nav?

Yes thats what I did. I also had these guys in the back pocket if Audi tried to charge or it didn't work

Audi Google Earth Fix Update - MIB2 Satellite View - MAK Coding (https://www.makcoding.co.uk/product/audi-google-earth-fix-update-mib2/)

I didnt use them as Audi fixed it for free but I talked to them prior and they said their patch would work for my car. I'm no expert here but my guess I they are only applying the patch audi did.

One issue is you need to go to an audi garage who really know what they are doing as aparently the official advice is Google/sat maps are 2018 onwards but that's nonsence!

Just be careful with third parties applying patch etc - make sure they are VAG Approved/Authorised.

So I am booked In for the MMI upgrade to allow satellite overlay on Thursday. I will also have my “map key” upgraded to accept the latest 2021/2022 European update.

I paid to renew the connect licence and then found that Google Earth would not work - I called Audi Digital Services who confirmed my car had the hardware to support Audi Satellite Maps - had it booked in and updated for free.

Hmm - also be careful of the main dealer doing an ECU update on your car without your permission and then trying to get them to revert it when the car does not drive the same :)

I have not posted here for a long time but thought I would update if anyone finds this information useful.

My satellite overlay is running fine and i am just about to embark on a trip to France and wanted to update to the latest 2023 edition maps.

Audi wanted an extortionate sum of money to upgrade my maps this time which involves the purchase of licence/activation key, the new maps and around £175.

There was absolutely no way I was paying that and I have another free solution which means I now have updated 2023 maps running perfectly in the vehicle with traffic and satellite overlay.

If anyone is interested they can drop me a message.
