Have this on my 2.0 tdi golf 2011
Temp gauge behaves as normal and gets to 90 and stays there
Topped up coolant
What else could it be as can’t think of anything obvious

P0116, not o116. Firstly, replace the temperature sender and if that does not work, the thermostat.

This is what vagcom says and the dial is at 90 degrees with the engine running on my drive.
I gather you mean the coolant tempreture sensor
What’s weird is the code doesn’t show up on a generic code reader but it you click read codes it pops up
I can’t get the fault code to show again in vagcom so must be a cold start issue but I did see it last week

Just to confirm the heater heats up very quickly and works really well even when on full speed

What’s also weird is I don’t have the management light on which seems to be associated with this fault
The temp gauge goes up as you would expect and sits at 90 and never moves

Coolant temp sensor changed
What a ***** place to put it lol [emoji23]
Temp figure lot closer together to what’s on there dash now and the temp gauge does go down when heaters wacked up on idle
No fault codes on vagcom either
My stuttering issue at 1800 revs when cruising along seems to be better as well
Not bad for a 7 quid part
Many thanks

The reason it does not show us on a generic reader is typical of generic OBDII reader, i.e. effin useless, often misleading and sometimes dangerous, don't waste your time and money on anything but VCDS. The MIL not coming on is normal until the fault causes an emissions issue, it is why when people come on here and describe a problem but say there are no lights on so there can't be a fault; that I get irritated.

Drove home stuttering between 1800 and 3000 revs is back
Plugged in and coolant sensor fault has come back
I haven’t deleted it so it will flag on vagcom
Will plug it in and tomorrow and give the exact details. I have had the coolant sensor fault on vagcom but didn’t take a picture of the wording

I do believe the car has dpf off (no proof but the dpf light doesn’t sync test at start up )

If it has had a DPF delete and associated software manipulation, personally I am stuck.

If you want to get to the bottom of this dpf present or not issue post a close up picture of the exhaust tailpipe, if it's got a working dpf we will see the metal in its natural colour minus a little bit of soot, if a dpf is not present it'll be black soot.
If soot is present perhaps then we could look for remnants of the system

I’m not sure what work it’s had done at all
The fault code only seems to have come up when I turned the engine off then switched the ignition on to plug in the code reader is that makes any difference

The stutter only happens between 1800 revs and 3000 then it clears up
Does anyone know what turns off if you disconnect the maf on a vw
Worth chucking in a boost sensor ?

I disconnected the maf sensor
It does have a small stutter but nowhere near as bad as normal almost perfect in fact
The coolant temp fault has come back and I’m confused as can’t see
Anything obvious with vagcom
The temp on the display behaves fine the heater heats up quickly

If the Air Mass Meter is disconnected the ECU reverts to a default base map using other sensors. If being disconnected changes the way it runs it doesn't necessarily mean the AMM is at fault as the default map could cover up another error as it sounds like it is running lean. Remember you will have generated an AMM open circuit code.

Thanks I’ve replugged in and cleared t the fault
The car mainly stutters when going up a hill with light acceleration if you drive a bit quicker it runs as normal

If you do fit a new AMM, only buy it genuine from VW or TPS, if you fit an aftermarket one, even Bosch, and you still have the problem you won't know if it is the new AMM or not.

What about the boost sensor or boost pressure sensor would they cause this issue

16500(P0116) - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Implausible Signal
I only just noticed the fault code in the title.

I don’t have any fault codes and the p0116 is still there even after sensor change

If this code comes back after a drive, replace the thermostat.

The fault code hasn’t come back since the weather has improved did 90 miles today temp went to 90 d and stayed there all day
