I'm hoping someone here can help. For as long as I can remember now, when I look at the onboard satnav on my Golf 1.5 eTsi Style DSG, it seems that there's a destination that is stuck in it which never clears. It looks to me like it's something being picked up as an event from my phone for some reason. Any idea how I can clear it permanently, even if it means unlinking. resetting or doing whatever is necessary? Please see attached pic. Thanks guys!37748

Know exactly what you mean. The route map to the right of the screen shows a route to a chequered flag (even though you haven’t entered a satnav destination, and there’s no guidance being shown on the main map).

When this was happening to ours, i could see from the estimated arrival time that it had picked up one of my favourites, or possibly a last destination. I never did find out how to get rid of it permanently.

Fortunately, it hasn’t happened since the software was updated to 1668.

That's it Dave. I think it's picked it up from a contact or event somehow. Can't find any way of clearing it. Will probably follow the instructions on the eSIM losing connectivity thread for doing a hard reset. Not sure what software version I have right now, I'll have a look.

What do you think of yours? We have the same model but I didn't go for the options you have. Not one for a warm bot or hands so the Winter Pack wasn't considered. I kind of wish I'd gone for the reversing cam now. I went for the option Dallas wheels though. I LOVE the car, the way it drives, feels. But I HATE the electronics. Too reliant on touch screens, bring back some buttons & knobs, I say. It spoils it for me. I preferred that aspect of my previous Mk.7 over this one. Even some niggly things... I liked having the current gear selection showing on the dash (I know you get that if you go into manual, but on the Mk7 it was there when in D too). I liked having a trip computer I could check & reset. This one has lots of configurations of the dash available, but try showing the MPG since start AND since refuelling simultaneously... you can't (on mine anyway). Clever maybe... but not THAT clever.

I've got software 1664 (on hardware H56). Tried doing a software update but it seemed to just hang. Do you know if 1668 is downloadable or is it a book-it-in job?

I'm not sure I would advise a hard reset - unless you're absolutely desperate. It's unlikely to fix the phantom destination problem, and you'll lose all your vehicle settings, radio and satnav favourites and paired phones.

Sadly, it seems the only things downloadable over the air are map updates and minor updates to the likes of the shop etc. The major updates (to a different software version) can only be done at a VW accredited workshop with the right equipment. By the way, they take around 5 hours! Also, as you've discovered, you can't search for an ota update - you will get a notification on the infotainment screen when one is available and you start the download from within the notification.

Probably a little off-topic but...... we moved from a Mk7.5 and, overall, we're very pleased. Especially since it's been in to have the software updated (which sorted the sporadic loss of communication with VW servers and the phantom sat nav destination which you've described) and a new steering wheel and loom fitted (which sorted the frequent travel assist / emergency assist not available warnings and associated, highly irritating, dinging).

On the plus side, I really like:
- nippy performance from a smooth, quiet and refined drivetrain
- superb DSG gearbox,
- comfortable ride, even on 18" wheels
- imperceptible stop/start - helped by the 48v mild hybrid starter / generator
- clever touches like the way the engine restarts itself when the vehicle ahead pulls off in stop/start traffic
- the optional head up display
- very reliable adaptive cruise control and automatically dipping headlights
- lovely interior on the Style model - ambient lighting and microfibre upholstery make it a high quality environment.

On the negative side:
- agree they've gone too far with replacing hard buttons with software - although, to be fair, there is a physical volume up/down button on the steering wheel, hard buttons for the screen demist and heated rear screen (on the little panel to the right of the steering wheel) and I don't tend to adjust the temperature anyway - have it set to the same temp and it just works automatically;
- no folding mirrors (our's was built last summer before the new 2021 model) - ridiculous on a £30k motor
- mpg slightly worse than the previous 1.4 130bhp DSG Mk7.5, despite the Mk8 having all the coasting and mild hybrid regen etc. Just goes to show that you pay for the increased performance somehow.

But, overall the positives by far outweigh the negatives, at least in my view.

Good luck getting yours sorted out. I think once you get through the teething troubles it will feel like a different car.

Ok, thanks. I am pretty desperate to try to resolve the phantom destination issue and as the car has only covered 538 miles since 23rd October, I don't have much to lose in the way of destinations/settings/favourites, etc. It's just so annoying though. I also get random flickers of (eg. the radio station) on the dash, random errors & warnings for no apparent reason - so I may well book it in again (for the 3rd time). Not what I'd expect for a car costing what this one did...

Yes, I'm with you on pretty much everything there. The gearbox and drivetrain are awesome, so smooth - as you say, you don't know that the engine cuts in/out or when you're coasting... fabulous. My old (67-plate) 7/7.5 did the same start-up when the car ahead moved off so that wasn't a surprise. I've yet to try out the headlamp-assist. My old one had the adaptive cruise so again I'm used to that already although this with the automatic speed sign detection & setting is good. Lovely seats, as you say. I've noticed also the mpg is slightly worse than in the 1.4 (I think mine was 125PS) but as it's not been used much, mostly town running and isn't yet run-in, am hoping that it'll improve a little. The extra performance is very welcome and satisfying though! My other annoyance is the lack of lighting on the volume & temp control strip, whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired! Ours is a 2021 model with folding mirrors but lacking the map on the dash feature (which bothered me at first but I'm over it now)...

Enjoy the motor anyway, thanks for your help & advice...

When I saw the thread title my heart missed a beat and I thought that my prayers had been answered without me asking the question.

Unfortunately not. So I'll have to ask the question. I can't find the answer in the manual (as much use as a chocolate fireguard) or by reading all previous threads on here. Apologies if I have missed the answer if it has been asked before.

My car was bought as an ex-demo and there are a number of previous destinations in the sat nav which I want to clear but can't figure out how to do it. In lockdown the dealership is closed so can anyone tell me how to delete individual previous desinations please. I am still getting used to the car and all the software so an explained answer would be most appreciated. Any questions and I'll try to answer them if that helps. The car is a 2020 (early) Style model. Thanks in advance as it must surely be possible to do this but I have spent so much time looking that I now need help.

Go to the last destinations screen and swipe left on any item you wish to delete. You then have to confirm by pressing the bin icon.

If the items you wish to remove are not in the last destinations, then they may be from the 'learn usage' function. To delete, go to the satnav settings (gear icon on bottom left) and press 'Delete usage pattern'. On the same screen you can also deactivate the 'Learn usage pattern'.

Thanks Handydave I'll give it a go tomorrow. I have already deleted the usgage pattern thinking that would do it but no it hasn't. I will also seek out the learn usage pattern and knock that on the head too.

Ok, so I emailed the We Connect support and got a reply back. They suggested (to clear the destination picked up from a calendar entry in my account) to delete the app from the phone, restart/reboot the phone then reinstall the app. I did this (but I also made sure I deleted all data in the app first before deleting it, to be sure). Reinstalled it, logged in (and this time ensured NOT to allow access to my calendar when asked). Used the car for the first time since today and it seems to have worked. Just so happens that (without reading the previous couple of posts here), I also unticked the learn usage pattern in the car and deleted the usage pattern collected so far. The map view does still have the arrow pointing to a destination on the right hand side, but now it's just empty. I don't know why that can't just auto-hide or something but it's just one of dozens of such little niggles and quirks I feel there are in the software in the car. Not sure if I'm learning to live with them or just exhausted and resigned to them now. They do take the shine off what could be a fabulous car, for me anyway...

Finally got out to the car (snow previously prevented this) yesterday and swiping left (it took several goes with some of them) got rid of all the old destinations. Thanks again Handydave for your input.
