Hi I'm a bit useless with cars my gearbox has been making noises when driving at low speeds. Had it to get checked by a specialist they said it needed taking out so they can investigate further. Had a call today saying it would cost 4grand to fix. I'm not sure of the average costs is that a fair price or excessive?

It all depends on what they say it needs really, I think a new one is getting on for £10k.....so there's that. How many miles on the box?

It has approx 105k. They didn't go into much detail I just know they specialise in audi vw gearboxes so decided to take it to them. If its a fair price I'm happy to pay just wanted make sure wasn't getting ripped off.

From another marques forum re a powershit box.
"Done some further research/calling around - Quotes to recondition the g'box ranged between "probably not much change from £3k" to "£3-3.5k".
So probably not too far off, although I would add that I would have expected a lot more than 105k from an Audi box.

Yeah bought it at 70k so yeah it wasn't expected. It still drove fine was just making the noise as I described above. So was a shock to see 4grand. I'll get it back next week should I ask what work was needed on the gearbox?

I would expect a full breakdown of parts and labour on the bill, if not I'd ask why not. The work should carry a guarantee, if you don't know what's been done / replaced you could come unstuck.

I believe the gods of DSG and CVT gearbox repairs are MILTA Technology, based near the Severn Crossing. Give them a call as they may well have a collection service. 01454 411743.

I feel your pain just had my multi tip tronic cvt gearbox on an Audi A6 refurbished and was just short of 4K for removal refurb new torque converter and then installed with fresh oil apparently this was a good price a lot of people would not touch the job. Hope it’s sorted soon

The work was carried out by ******* in Glasgow and the car was just short of 136000 miles. I have done a shed load of work to my car so decided to get work done as opposed to scrapping it.

My current car is an Audi A6 c6 avant 2.0tdi with the multi tip tronic cvt gearbox with the f1 style paddles didn’t read that it was a c7 I was told it was an internal failure related to mileage and age. Hope all goes well.

Has the gearbox oil been changed at the required intervals?

Yea it's had two services plus another now the gearbox has been refurbished. I got the car back Friday costing me 4 grand and its still making the same noise as I sent it in for. Now the mechanics are claiming its a different noise all together and that the original noise has been fixed. Not sure where I stand but I'm going to get a 2nd opinion

If its a 2.0TDI with CVT then it doesn't have a torque converter. It has a multiplate clutch pack and dual mass flywheel. Did the bill you for a torque converter ?
