2.0 TFSI & SQ5 Running costs/mpg?

Hi all,

So initially I joined here to ask whether I am being silly going from a A7 3.0 272bhp tdi to a Q5 2.0 tfsi.
While I have not found anyone doing anything from same/similar, the general consensus is to test-drive the 2.0 which is what I thought it would be however...

I've done nothing but read up/watching reviews in the last few days and I've added another dilemma. I am now sure I want to move into a Q5 but the SQ5 is looking like more of a contender - again I have not driven one.

Does anyone have real-life figures on how the SQ5 3.0 tfsi run in terms of mpg and so on and what I would be also interested in is if anyone has done the 2.0 TFSI and moved into the 3.0 SQ5 TFSI or the other way round.

My journey/s at the moment are almost 0 but in the pre-covid world, it would be a daily trip of around 10 miles to work each way (local) with the mornings being empty 40mph roads and the evenings being slight stop-start.
Every other weekend would consist of a motorway trip of fairly slow stop/start m25 (40-50 miles) and then a traffic-free M25 trip back.

I have checked a couple of fuelly pages and the general view is around 25mpg on the SQ5 and 30mpg on the 2.0 TFSI.

I'm also calculating on the basis both have a 70 litre tank, at 25mpg, there would be around a 385 start > finish on the SQ5 and 462 miles on the Q5 - is this about right?

Is there anything else to think the SQ5 would be more costly to run vs the 2.0 tfsi? It seems servicing is fairly standard and similar pricing, the tyres will cost me more on those 21s and to be honest, I think I would want to drop size. I'm on 21's on the A7 and while they look great, the ride is just too hard and the amount of flats I've is not worth it.

And finally, is the SQ5 always 4 wheel or is it like the Q5 and only when it needs it?

Apologies for the number of questions! I might as well ask them while we're locked down. Both cars I have seen are specced up nicely and the only difference is the Q5 has a sunroof. Pricing is the same too but mileage would be looking at mid 35k on an 18-plater, the Q5 12k on a 19-plater

Hi.
Just moved into a Q5 from an S4. Very impressed with it. go for the 3.0 , I did and just the thing. Fuel around 15p per mile without trying and still having a bit of fun.

Just to update, I went ahead with the SQ5! Slightly higher mileage for the year but it was the better of the few in my options list.

SQ5 3.0 TFSI, Daytona Grey May 2018 with 35k on it. Full history and quite obviously a motorway cruiser for some high up director of some sort given how the inside is as good as new with only the driver seat showing little dimples where he sat.
Being a SQ5, comes fairly packed with spec - heated diamond stitch leather, rear cam, virtual cockpit, flat bottom wheel, folding mirrors, privacy glass, matrix led lights, audi rings, electric seats etc etc. Still got 6 months original warranty and full audi service too - and all for under 35k + decent trade-in for the A7


They put in £20 fuel which I decided to risk bearing in mind it was on 0 miles when I got there initially as most dealerships tend to do!
That £20 took me the full 110 miles back home (with a bit of introductory/ice-breaking fun on empty stretches) leaving 25 until empty tank so this is more than acceptable in terms of mpg which hit around 31 or so.

Couple of issues I need to book it in for - one of which is the air con strangely does not work. They did nip it down to an Audi specialist when I first noticed it and went back home who thought it was just a regas which they will reimburse once I get it done here.
Also the spare key unlock button does not work but the rest does? They're ordering in a new key.

I also scanned it when handover had finished and found a number of odd errors :

This was more worrying but clearly not an issue since July so either fixed or a blip? Either way hopefully its gone or warranty will resolve
21583 - Loss of Crankshaft Synchronization

Next I had all 4 TPMS Warning kick in on the 11th July 2020. Can only assume brakes were being replaced and removal of the wheels triggered it as I know rear brakes are def new.

Next was relating to the HVAC and something potentially relating to the air con ?

And then theres the backup battery. If it does not come back and given it was 2019, not an issue.

All of them went away when reset and I am due to re-scan shortly to see after the earlier drive if they have come back

If not, I'm not too fussed - could have been worked on, a number of recalls were carried out so might have happened then... what is annoying is clearly part of their million point check, they have not picked up the air con (though ticked as passed) and not reset any errors which I would assume they would automatically after their scan.

But they're all the same - we got a Q3 last month from a completely different Audi dealership from the other side of where I got mine and they too missed a whole load out from a dead sat nav (£3500 to resolve), faulty fuel cap (known issue) and a bunch of other bits. In their case, they had even mentioned some of them on the checks but were not rectified before sale.
