I am about to change the rear brake pads on my B6 Avant 2.4 ltr petrol estate.

Is there any NOT recommended brake pads or are they all much the same these days?

Also, I am contemplating changing the discs and am wondering if OEM is the only way to go?

I've started doing research online but there is so much information etc that it is hard to reach a sensible answer.

Does the forum have any discount offers with suppliers?

Any advice (esp the DON'T DO THIS type) would be most gratefully received.

Check your PR codes and match them to that if I was changing mine I always go genuine disk and ATE Pads

I've found the VAG ones to work best for me. They have a budget version to get closer to the after market stuff that you'll find, but I just get the standard / higher-quality one. They include the guide shims for our car, which was good to change as it fixed a sticking pad that I hadn't realised was caused by a damaged(?) one - and had therefore got through a good quantity of lesser brand pads in the meantime.

If you get a few other bits like filters for next time you do a service they may give you a discount if you ask, esp. if getting discs.

I'd also be happy to use the limited set of decent brands that somewhere like Darkside offers. Brembo disks in this case for example.

It's a probably once-only job if done well, so a few extra pounds on parts is well worth it IMHO.

Akebono Euro Ceramic pads are good also. They produce less dust.
