Hi, the central locking wasn't working on our 2005 golfs drivers door. We found at least one broken wire in the rubber bellows where the wires pass into the door, two others were partially broken. I obtained another drivers door loom in a scrappy and fitted it. It was different in that it had an extra connector, we decided it was for a golf with 4 electric window controls on the drivers door. The central locking now works but unfortunately the speaker has gone off and the fuel flap isnt now working. These are on an auxiliary wiring cable that we just kept from the original installation, we had just un clipped it and re clipped it. I'm at a loss as to what has happened, the new loom looks good, it has a date on it of 2013 so as the scrapyard car was 2005, it was a replacement. I'm at the point of going to repair the original harness soldering in new bits of cables. Anyone have any ideas as to the way forward.

New correct harness for your actual model is best way forward. Soldering this fragile constantly flexible harness rarely lasts more than a few weeks.

If you have old and new looms I'd check the actual run of wire positions in each connector. If necessary a pin / terminal extractor tool will let you move some around, and the new pins will probably fit old shells if stripping bare and reloading allows the right connections to be made.

Similarly, remove good wires from new loom to replace damaged ones in original. Probably far fewer to do that way.

Thanks for your replies. I eventually soldered bits into old harness and all is good for the moment. The other one I bought from the scrappy I would think is also fine. Car is only worth £500 so don’t want to buy new harness.
