Correct sealant for the sump / Oil Pan

I need to remove my sump / oil pan as it's developed a rush spot which I think will turn into a hole if a poke it :-( Was thinking of just drilling a hole and fitting a nut and bolt with a sealing washer, should do for now but I'll need some sealant to be able to re-fit it? What is the correct stuff to use on this please? Thanks.

I would think it would be best to replace in one operation rather than remove and do the job twice, but I guess at the moment its going to be hard to get the replacement part! Again, I dont think you may get this sealant but when I worked at VW this was a current part number of the sealer for sumps if I remember correctly :D 176 404 A2 ( Silicone sealant).

If its holding up right now I'd just keep an eye on it until you can get the right part. I have some rust converter which I may put on it to slow it down temporarily. If its already leaking even a little bit then I would treat it as an emergency

How will you get behind it to put the bolt through the hole?

Anyway, the special sealant is D 174 003 M2 and costs £43.27 and the sump itself is 059 103 602 K and costs £131.59 if I have guessed the car correctly.

Hi yes that's the reason for removing the sump, as nowhere's open at moment to get it welded, I thought if there is clear space behind, I would simple stick a nut and both though the hole with a sealing washer and replace the sump, I've got a to do and oil service anyway so would like to address this issue before I replace the oil. It's only a small buble so hoping it wouldn't be too big a hole if there is indeed a hole there once I address this rust spot?36743

Thanks I have ordered a tube from Amazon, then if I find I don't require it as if no hole is found under that blob on the sump, I can simply return it :-) Thanks
