Comfort control module

Good morning all

forgive me, this may have been covered a few times

I have an A4 B7 convertible 2007 2.0 TDI S Line


The car has been parked up for a few months now with the odd start up over winter period and a few runs up and down the drive to make sure the brakes are not sticking on
I decide for give the old girl some TLC ready for the coming summer months ( hopefully)

The battery had gone flat, so I charged it up and put it back in place, but didn’t replace the black plastic cover properly.
water has come in, ran under the passenger side and into the rear footwell. ( car parked facing upward on drive )

The amount of waster under the carpets was quite surprising.......I even poured waster out of the comfort control module under the passenger carpet

I’ve since dried everything out and reconnect everything and check for error on a small hand held scanner
I’m faced with electrical issues which I believe is from the comfort control module
I can’t seem to clear the codes down from my small scanner as they keep returning. ( all 19 of them )
these relate to central locking, interiors lights, fuel flap lock, alarm, Keys

I’m currently in the process of obtaining a Ross tech scanner to do a full scan to confirm the module it’s completely knackered


my question is

The module is 8H0 959 433 K I know the next version up has an “M” on the end which would need programming anyway,
these are hard to find... and cost a small fortune

could I purchase a unit this has come off a A4 B7 model S line or even B6 (perhaps not a convertible ) and reprogram this unit to suit?

I noticed some units are not fully pinned and thinking this is down to the model specification, but as long as I get a fully pinned unit
Or something with a different ending letter ...would this work the same once reprogram.

The incontinence unit (they always seem to be wet) may recover with some contact cleaner and being died out, I blow then dry with an air line and then heat them up with a hair drier and they usually recover. Your fault could be a corroded wiring junction in the harness a few inches back from the unit.

thank you for the reply

ive checked for corroded wires back to the contact blocks, everything looks ok
I’ve sprayed all connections with contact cleaner and done the same with the CCM ( after taken apart again )

replace everything, but still having problems, the unit starts to click and flashed the glove box light as if it’s got a bad earth
below is the full scan I took today, can please have a look and confirm my suspension it’s the module that’s gone
before a get another one, I might give the CCM the once over with the soldering iron and magnifying glass in case I’ve missed any dry joints

You have a lot of low voltage issues there.

Hi Crasher

Yep, the battery had run flat over the winter, put it on charge and the car starts up fine
this scan may have been taken without the engine running to be honest

One of the relay on the CCM board starts clicking. the ignition is off and key out,

it only starts clicking after the interior lights have dim out and you then open the glove box or switch the interior lights on
...close the glove box or turn the lights off it stops, put the key in switch ignition on or open any door it stops

ive got no locking of the fuel cap, alarm sound or working cab roof, ....I’ve eliminate the fuses as they have tested all ok

not too sure where to go now

So, gone out and plugged in the CCM with the battery still connect

When the scan finished, I cleared all the faults down

Turned the engine off and then took the key out

Then re stared engine again and run a fresh scan which is what you can see below

don't worry too much about the air bag error as the passenger seat is out of the car at the moment....

So if I stop the engine with the key in the ignition ( ready to pull out, Position 1 I think ) with the glove box open,
The glove box light flashes to the same sequence as the relay clicking on the CCM

if i now turn on the interior lights, these also flash to the same sequence as the glove box light and clicking relay on the CCM

push interior lights off and close the glove box, the relay clicking on the CCM stops

open the glove box or turn the interior lights on the CCM relay starts clicking again,
if i now open a door while its clicking. it stops..... as the interior lights come back on, close the door and watch to the interior light to fade out, then turn the interior lights back on again or open the glove box the CCM start clicking again

pull the key out and the interior lights come on, ( no clicking ) but once they have faded out.....then turn them on, the clicking starts or open the glove box

Close glove box and turn interior lights off the CCM stops,


Turning the driving lights on in any combination does not have any effect on the CCM....no clicking,

this seem to be linked to the interior lights but only when they have faded out

Did you open up the harness to access the power feed multiple connections point, this is a 4B but it is similar.Is the earth on the floor clean?

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, can you confirm the convenience module location for me? I've seen a youtube video but it's a left hand drive car and it's in the drivers Left footwell, but I'm assuming on a right hand drive car, it's still in the left footwell?

Is the convienience module under the seat, or is it more at the front of the passenger footwell? I can't find a picture online exactly where this is located before I go digging?

Also would you know if the bluetooth module is in the same waterproof box? or is there another box in one of the footwells for this?

mine is a right hand drive car and the control module has suffered severe water ingress
it’s about 2-3 inches in from the door footwell and about 6 inches towards the seat from the door pillar
if you look at the picture above it’s exactly where the cluster of wire are

I don’t have Bluetooth on this car so there was only this box in the footwell

Thanks for this, and that is definately in the passenger foorwell?

I too have suffered with water in the passenger footwell, although I park the car facing downhill, I think I got away with it, and just some damp carpet but want to check. Also considering how difficult to retrofit the footwell lights into this module. So need to find it first,
