Hi All,

So ... Ive bought myself a 2008 Audi A41.8T Cabriolet but having problems with roof and looking for some help please.

Right ... When i operated the button for the roof, id hear the motor kick in and start working, the windows would go down and then the roof would start to go up, however it would only lift up a few inches then stop, and the motor would stop as well and thats it. It would however go back down from there and lock. no matter how many times I tried it, that's all that would happen.

A few people suggested it would be the motor in the boot, so I stripped out the boot and found the motor, and noticed the oil level was low so went to audi and bought some and topped it up.

However this still didn't make any difference, it just carried on doing the same.

So, I bought myself a recon motor and swapped it over BUT the same thing happens still ???

Next, someone suggested to manually reset the roof, so after some research on what to do that's what I done and guess what …. the same thing was still happening ??

So I tried to reset the roof again, and still no joy

HOWEVER … Now im getting a message on the dash saying " SOFT TOP NOT SECURE " and the roof light flashing on the dash and a beeping sound when im driving.

Some one save me please ? :banghead:

Not to sure a neighbour done it with his fault code reader .. is there something in particular?

A VCDS scan would be better than a generic reader.
Over on Audi sport.net there is an indepth thread on cab roof motors that might be worth a read.

It needs a proper scan. A common issue is the storage box in the boot not closing the sensors to say it is down.

They may need to go deeper than a scan and study the measuring block values to see the switch status values.

Hi Steve,

I have this problem on my A4 every spring, after the roof has not been used for the winter. It's an easy fix, and I do it every year so this year I made a video, I've just uploaded it to YouTube.

It's pretty simple, and takes about 20-30 mins.

Audi A4 Cabriolet - fix for roof not opening - YouTube (https://youtu.be/wWst9zJLOvw)

By the way, for me the issue is inside the motor that drives the hydraulics. The spring-loaded pin that connects to the rotor inside the electric motor gets stuck. It's all explained in the video.
