Can anyone confirm whether either of these apps will turn on the fuel pump for fuel filter priming?

Thanks

Do you need to prime the pump when changing the fuel filter? Didn’t think this was required... at least on the 2.0 TDI it’s not required... eg; change the filter ..and just run the engine... or am I missing something ?

This guy says it’s a definite nono- must be primed

Yes OBD 11 does do fuel priming, I use it to mine, I will do the little write up later, I have a note within my OBD11 box to remind me.

Just found it,
Module 01 (engine)
Output test
Fuel pump electonics
Hit the tick

Think the Audi A6 C7’s 2.0 TDIs have electric fuel pumps.. which does away with the need to prime..

Not sure about the 2.0 tdi but the 3.0 bitdi MUST be primed.
The fuel system works at up to 2000 bar and the high pressure pump works to such fine tolerances that it will be knackered if run dry.

Wife is on her third 3.0 tdi, c6 and c7, I have done the fuel filter on all of them, all done the same way, ie old out new in ign on and start it

Same here, it just starts right up and not one single misfire, so no air is getting into the high pressure side of the pump, it's fired back to the tank in the return line. The system must be designed so a certain amount of air can be introduced if low on fuel, without causing misfires.
If the whole fuel system has been drained down for removal of components etc, then it must be primed to make sure there is fuel in the pump.

Obviously VW / Audi don't know what they're talking about...

You would be truly scared if you ever went into any garage, and saw all the mechs folloiwng the correct procedures;)
They will have a workaround for every job going.

I agree most mechanics have short cuts and workarounds. In my 50 years experience of working on cars I’ve picked up a few. Risking a £1000 high pressure injection pump for the sake of a couple of mouse clicks in VCDS sounds more like a bodge to me.

Audi quote for the worst case scenario in their manual, so as there is no come back if it all goes wrong. Changing fuel delivery parts can be extremely varied - from a complete strip down and installation of dry parts over along time (potential drain back), to a quick fuel filter change involving a fully primed pump, which can filter out air, and send it back to the tank. As I said before, the system is designed to cope with a little air, as no one would like to fit a new fuel pump due to getting low on fuel.

I kinda need to know this; as I am planning to home change the filter as a straightforward swap; no pump priming etc.

Crasher; you out there; is there any real risk to not priming with the pump switching?
