View Full Version : Battery change - DIY?

The battery on my 2013 A6 3.0 BiTDi is now 7 years old and on a cold morning this week it sounded as if it was straining a little. Two questions to those more knowledgeable than me please:
1) Would you recommend a preventative change now, before it dies completely.
2) If so, is it a DIY proposition or would disconnecting the battery completely cause any of the electronics to completely reset and cause problems.

I am reasonably competent with most things car related but the electronics are beyond my understanding.

Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong, but think it would need coding from other posts on this subject.

Better to get a battery specialist to do it they can plug in and keep the cars ecu running and tell same the vehicle has a new one, otherwise it can create issues.

John. If you know anyone with a Halfords Trade Card that may help. They ran a 10% promotion in November so I preemptively picked up a battery for my car "just in case". 5 year warranty Start-Stop (think it might have been an 015). Just over £100 incl VAT on Trade Card with extra 10% off, and I could have gone back to get it fitted and coded for £25.

As it happened all the tests at MOT and Service suggested my original 6 year old battery was fine - but I do put it on a CTEK now and again.

Mine died completely 3 times while it was left at airport car parks. Had it jump started, no issues

Had the battery replaced , no issues either. Engine was off

I would hazard a guess, the correct way is to code the battery, but what happens in practice is just a straight swap job.
I have replaced two on the wifes previous C6 A6 models with no issues.

Best to code and just change a digit in the batt reg unit in the coding ifno BEM sticker on new batt.
