I’m having a service and ZF oil and filter change next month on my BiTdi. I bought a new fuel filter for the 36k service but we couldn’t find it so left it for this one. It’s bloody big enough so I should be able to see it but can anyone tell me where to look please?

On mine which is the 2.0tdi it was under the plastic trim on the drivers side, uk. Easy enough to change but be quick as some fuel loss. You also need VCDS to prime.

Definitely under the plastic trim directly below the drivers seat (underneath the car) on my 2016 BITDI Allroad.

Under the driver seat on my 2015 Allroad also, I changed mine last year, you will need T25 torx, 10mm socket, Philips screwdriver and some pliers. Make sure you have the correct filter as there is a couple of different ones with different size inlet and outlet. Its easy to change, too me about 20mins on my driveway, next time will be about 10mins.
You have to remove the fabric undertray that goes from front wheel to rear wheel, you will then see the filter, sprung pipe clips on each end.
As above once changed you need to prime the system, this can be done with VCDS or like I did with OBD11. Some people say you dont have to prime but I always have.
Have plenty or rags handy and also a dish or bag to put old filter into quickly.

Hi JonathanK.Sorry if this is a bit off topic but which garage are you getting to do the oil and filter change on the ZF box and would you mind sharing how much they are charging for it?As for the diesel filter I did this myself on the drive and it’s not to bad.My previous had the filter in the engine bay so much easier to replace.

*******. £230. For ZF original filter and oil plus gasket. That was with a 27% discount offer. TPS wanted £475. I find with Autudoc that if you choose items and put them in your wish list they offer progressively higher discounts. I could have paid about £197 if I’d waited another week but hey ho. As for fitting, I have a friend who works for Merc and they let their fitters use the Worksop out of hours so he does all my servicing at mates rates. The group also has VAG garages so VCDS is always available from one fitter or another. I asked Audi for a price and they gave me the ‘doesn’t need doing, sealed for life sir’ story.

The ZF8HP box is so widely used now if you look on YouTube there are plenty of videos showing how to do it, although none on an A6 I don’t think.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info and the link JonathanK.I have done a gearbox oil change on my previous C6 3.0 and the A4 before that but both had manual gearboxes.Looking at the YouTube clip it seems a bit more involved. This is my first auto and I’m just a bit worried I might mess it up.....I bought the car last year and also intend to keep it for a while,as they are definitely a car to keep.I’ll probably get a specialist to do the gearbox oil.

Not the kind of job I’d want to do with the car a few feet off the ground. You need a lift or leave it to a specialist. I know membership of a ‘club’ is not a guarantee of quality but this organisation may be worth a look for you.
