It seems there is a 2020 firmware and map update available.
Several questions:

How do I know what I need, in fact do I need anything? Seems to be a lot of choices on upgrademyaudi.net
Is it all done via t'internet?
Can I just have a map update.
What is firmware?

Can't use MyAudi as it appears I haven't registerd myself as the key holder and as I am not at home I can't do that for a while.

Thanks in advance.

I think I am right in assuming your car is a 2015 or later A6 and from your descrioption it has the Tech Pack. In that case, and providing it is less than 3 years old, it was eligible for 5 free map updates until the car is 3 years old (roughly one every 6 months). These can be done either direct to the car using the car's internet connection - it will tell you a map update is available - however it will only update the section of the map for where you are, so if you are in London you will not get updates for the say the Midlands or Wales. If you drive to these areas then it will download those updates. Alternatively you can do the full update via the MyAudi app, which requires a 32Gb SD card formatted as FAT32. Once the car is over 3 years old you need to purchase additional access to Audi Connect from the dealer, however some seem to arrange this for free. If you are buying the car from an Audi dealer worth asking if they will include extended connection time witht he car if you are close to the 3 year point.

Firmware is the operating system for the MMI system. Audi dealers will normally only update if the car is exhibiting issues that the firmware update fixes.

In that case, if you are buying from an Audi dealer, ask them to give you at least 12 months Audi Connect access and also ensure the car comes with the latest version of the maps

Don't know if it helps, but you'll still be entitled to any map updates that were issued prior to the 3 year anniversary.

I have a 2017 car under 3 years old. The notice about map updates popped up this week, but it said I didn't have the license or similar to download. I can't find anything on the My Audi website or App that has a map download.

Any ideas?

found it, saying I have used up my quota of updates, but news to me. Could these have happened automaticlly without me knowing?

Yes you can set it to do auto update. Worth asking your dealer about extending the licence. Many will arrange it for free

Hi while it's true that you have to pay for new maps after 3 years, you can get Audi connect license renewed for free each year, sometimes the two get confused. Connect allows you the access to services such as traffic but not updated maps. Just phone Audi to get connect extended takes about 2 weeks. Hope this may assist and clarify.

I got a call from Audi telling me my 2015 A6 is eligible for a free mmi software upgrade.

My mmi has been freezing almost daily for the last few weeks and I keep having to reset it. I wonder will the update fix that issue?

Ok, got home and played around a bit and found systems update under MMI settings. Clicked on a few map areas and download started! Just working my way through them all. Easy peasy!
Also seems ive been missing out on Audi connect. Have always had it, used it a little bit, but now (after 3 years) registered on myAudi, and all of a sudden seems to be a few more things accesible and it even reads it all out to me!! What a plonker!
