A1 fuel cap housing

My A1 fuel cap lock has ceased working. I've bought a new actuator but has anyone taken the cap housing out without damaging it. The Audi manual tells you to put a screw driver in the plastic recess to push the clips behind but this will damage the housing. I take it Audi wants us to buy a replacement. Is there any way of taking the housing out without damaging it?

No you can’t get it out without breaking it, this is a problem right across the Audi range.
