My car used to work as it should , remote central locking has stopped working so I tried the usual change the remote battery and it seemed to start working but it has now stopped again . Today it has been in to Audi main dealers for a diagnostic and they have said that it is the instrument cluster / immobiliser that is faulty and the part is 1700 quid plus vat . Is there any way I can get a second hand instrument cluster / immobiliser and get it coded to my car ????? Any help gratefully received. :zx11:

eBay and someone with the proper VW computer connected to VW to code it. I would get a second opinion first as main dealers like to just change things.

Is it going to be cheaper to send it to somewhere like ecutesting to get it repaired , or risk buying a second hand one and coding it though ?????

Never had any success sending them away unless I just picked the wrong firms. Sounds pretty rare. What faults came up on diagnostics?

ECU testing are near to me, one of my staff used to work there, one of my trade friends was in tonight and we discussed him, I won’t go anywhere near them and my friend has had to resort to going to his house and knocking on his front door to get parts back... BBA Reman are in liquidation, AC Tronics have let me down on a number of occasions... all these ECU testing and repair companies are charlatans... avoid the lot of them.

Ha not just me then! I did see one on an episode of Wheeler Dealers where mike took a TT cluster to get the LCD refloated but they have probably gone bust!

The central locking is performed by the convenience unit behind the glove box and the immobiliser is in the dash.

they say it is the dash , central locking locks and unlocks from the button on the inside of the drivers door

Don’t take what an Audi dealership tells you as gospel. I ordered a new key on a car I had ages ago to find my car had had new barrels over the years. They then told me that you couldn’t get it cut and they wouldn’t pair it. First guy I called laser cut me a new blank which I popped into the new key id just bought. Took it back and the rather red faced service manager then got it coded for me this was after quoting me £1800 to have all the locks changed. Cost me £10!

The dash is the immobilser, the central locking is the convenience unit, two separate parts connected by the CAN BUS.

Won't lock or unlock the car , obviously new battery in the remote and red led lights on the remote when buttons pressed but car does not respond . As said previously Audi said the error codes on instrument cluster were stopping the signal from remote to the central locking but now that the instrument cluster has been repaired it is still the same hence the does my remote now new re pairing to the car by Audi ?

The radio remote certainly could need re-matching to the inconvenience unit... VCDS can do this easily.

Don’t know, if it is a fully functioning illegal one then probably, if it is the shareware then no.

I’ve done it with VCD after getting a replacement key and swapping blade and immobiliser chip over. It runs as a process and tells you to press a button on each key I seem to recall and it saves them all.
