Rear Fog lights, number plate light and boot won't open

Hi: Ive seen the same problem on this forum but no actual fixes mentioned. The multi function display says both rear fog lights and number plate light are faulty and sure enought they are not on. Also I cant open the boot the usual way but can with the key. When I open the boot a little way, the number plate light comes on and the fog lights work as well. The boot is then able to be opened the usual way and the multi function display is happy. After a couple of start/stops the same happens again.

I don't know if this is relevant, but with the boot lid lights working, if I open the boot lid until the interior light comes on, the boot lid lights go out, is this normal.

Check the loom by the NS hinge for broken wires.

Hi Kite: Great advice. Once I cut back the rubber bendy tube around the loom I found a broken brown wire. It was thicker than the other wires so I expect it was the earth wire. There was also another wire with damaged insulation so it was worth looking at. All seems fine now thanks.
