After trying to search unsuccessfully for answers on my own. Obviously I知 just not entering the correct search terms and showing my novice地ess. I知 Hoping somebody will point me to where I need to go as i知 sure all my questions will have already been answered... and probably several times over (sorry everyone).

OK so my car: 2007 B6 Passat Estate (Variant - for those over the pond) SEL 170 with factory fitted detachable tow hitch (read somewhere this may mean I have something different re the standard modules). An RCD 500 stereo and the iPod dock in the glovebox (which I can稚 seem to get to work anyway) and the mods I知 looking to do are.

1. Swap the stereo for the RNS315 with DAB.
I understand the parts I知 going to need are:
RNS315 unit the one with DAB.
Sat nav gps antenna.
An adapter to allow me to plug in the fm/am aerial due to the closeness of the connector spacing on the back of the 315.
Dab aerial (but what is the original and where does it actually go?)
Microphone that goes to the rear view mirror, but up which pillar?
and a canbus gateway due to battery drain issue unless this ok due to the tow bar fitment.

2. Swap the midline display for the high line display (the red one not the black /white one)
I understand parts I知 going to need for this one are:
New high line clocks.
Steering wheel module.

3. Swap the steering wheel for a multi function one. (8 button one)
I understand the parts I知 going to need for this one are:
Either the buttons etc... or a complete wheel with them already on.

And if I do 2 & 3 at the same time will I need to replace the stalks?

And final questions...

With the 315 can I get voice function working for the built in Bluetooth and sat nav?
With the 315 can I swap the iPod dock for anything such as an aux socket or usb point?
Are there any walk through guides on these?
and
Are any of these mods straight swaps or do I need reprogramming using the VCDS for all of hem and if so where in Cheshire can I get this done and at what stage of the mod will I need to do this?

I know this is a barrage of questions all wrapped up in one but hopefully with help I will get all the answers/directions I need, so thanks in advance.

Regards

Engine code ?

Sorry for my naivety but how do I find that? And just so I understand why do we need that?

Because of the strong likely hood of the engine requiring the most essential crucial mod of all !

Which is? I still wouldn稚 know where to find it though.

Which is? I still wouldn’t know where to find it though.

Most likely a BMR or BMN engine although BRD are also 170ps.

White sticker if still there under the boot carpet or in the spare wheel well - has engine, gearbox and all equipment codes fitted from factory. Might even have the injector campaign code 23H9 hand written on it or on a separate sticker to indicate the faulty Siemens injectors and loom were replaced.

Yep first mod if not already done should be the oil pump drive mechanism and inferior balance shaft. Being a 2007 it will most likely have the gear driven balance unit. DIY around 」250 to 」300 (parts only) more if at an independent garage service due to labour, and not done at a dealership where they replace the whole balance unit for 」1400+ plus labour I believe.

From sticker it states engine is BMR, from the receipts that came with the car it had a replacement gearbox put in in 2014.

Ok. So about the other mods I am looking to do myself?

My BMR oil pump drive failed at 148k but just after I left home so no engine other engine damage fortunately as I stopped the car in 20 seconds after the warning came up. Some have had to carry on for longer due to where they are and the speed they are going at and have suffered turbo and other engine damage.

Mods are no good if the engine is ruined and the car can't go anywhere and the reason we harp on about it as it is the most damaging flaw in the engine due to poor VW engineering. I was lucky and it only cost me just under 」300 but others have suffered badly and had to shell out more, some didn't even bother to have it fixed and sold on at a loss or even scrapped the car.

Understood, and as currently on 116k miles I will be looking into this mod when I speak to my usual mechanic on Monday, however the other mods I will be doing myself so it痴 there I need guidance etc...

It's not a mod, it is a necessary replacement to prevent serious engine failure following a no oil pressure situation which could happen today, tomorrow, a week or months time or longer - it is engine roulette for sure until it is done. See the previous thread on here regarding oil pump from another member going through right now.

There should be plenty on here that have upgraded head units, I'm more mechanically minded and for the electrical side I have my father so have only have a more general electrical knowledge.

And I really appreciate the advice which rest assured I will be acting on. Is that kit 9 the best replacement to go for. I知 not mechanical at all more cosmetic and a little electrical I suppose. Hence consulting my mech on Monday. Approx how many hours does it take to swap out?

Good mechanic with full garage facilities (lifts etc.) who's done it before 2 to 3 hours maybe less if one of the quick ones. One who's not done it before but competent maybe a little longer. Much longer the lesser the mechanics VW experience and equipment available. Kit 9 is the only one that is likely to fit your engine from KMB at least (KMB have been doing this particular shaft re-engineering for the longest and are proven but others profess to do the same now for less). Avoid anyone who uses multiple inserts as the reengineering method, they don't last, I should know.
