Hi,
I’m hoping someone can help.
I have a Golf mk5 with an original sat nav media player with the capability of playing AUX, CD, SD card etc.
However when I press the media player button, a red screen appears which states “system starting” with a red background and stays that way with the media player not working.
The system has the ability to work as after several reboots the media player screen can sometimes appear with all the options working. Everything else on the stereo works such as the sat nav and radio, it’s just the media player that is giving me issues.
Does anyone have any cheap ideas to fix this without replacing the whole unit.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Most likely needs a software reload (update). Simple to do, but be warned it could kill the unit if the original fault is beyond software.

Thanks for your reply chap, how do I go about getting the software updated?

Software to reload or update is available on the web for download. Generally, the best most stable version on an .iso is "5238 Josi" (google that and you'll find it) which needs burning to cd or dvd. Depending on the current software level you might find you also need to update the maps afterwards as the hard drive will be reformatted, so bear this in mind.

If you really can't face doing all the legwork yourself then there are sellers on ebay who will provide the software and maps for about £20 or so. If you're in the UK and don't fancy trusting some dodgy bloke to sell you discs which may or may not work then there's a guy on Briskoda forums who does repairs and software updates for about £40. Search for "Rustynuts Briskoda" and you'll probably find him.
