Hi all,
Just changed my oil for the millers PD specific oil and VAG filter. The problem is that I seem to be getting a rattle on startup which I dont think was there before It sounds like haydraulic tappets taking time to fill, so sounds very tappety for about 2 seconds and then gets quieter. Im worried that this may be damaging the engine? Is it perhaps the oil which is crap?

Hydraulic tappets always 'click' for a few seconds, I would suggest that because you changed the oil, you were listening closely ;)

Mine tap in the morning for a few seconds, then I drive away :D

I know exactly what you mean, my PD TDI is the same. 2 secs at most then gone. It's always done it. Even when I got it from my mate at 13,000 miles it did it. It's had castrol 5w30 and now I always use Millers XFE-PD 5w40 and it's still similar. Oil type is not the reason, it's the nature of hydraulic tappets as onzarob pointed out. You've probably become more concious after oil change. Millers is a very good oil and has been in my TDi for 2 years. ;) not the same oil you understand ;) It's had 3 or 4 changes
