Hi all. My mate's 2006 polo 9n 1.4 petrol has this auto transmission problem. Doesn't go into gear when starting in the morning. Needs to warm up for around 7 minutes. Afterward it would shift perfectly fine. Tried checking the fluid and it was normal. Then gradually the problem got worse to the point that it needed 20 min of warm up time. Figure a fluid change wouldn't do harm (VW claimed this to be a lifetime fluid). Changed the filter and replaced the fluid. Warm up time got back down to 7 minutes. Googling around seems to point out that the jatco 001 transmission has some torque converter issue.

Any thoughts?

So you can select a gear it is just that nothing happens? have you checked for fault codes and performed the basic settings.

Hi crasher yes exactly what you said. However it would go into gear after warming up. No fault codes whatsoever.

An update from my mate saying that when he drove home from work today the warm up time is reduced to 3 min. Should I just let the fresh fluid to do its job? Maybe give it another change few months down the road?

I would say the ATF pump is weak. Private message me the reg and I will look into it.
