Right, going to book the 3.0 v6 (been debating it for a while) into a local specialist for a cambelt and water pump change this month, anytihng i should ask or request?
IIRC I should say i prefer the water pump wh the metal impellor, right? (I'm sure when i spoke to them a while ago, he said they only fit full plastic ones)
Anything else i should check before booking her in? I know Crasher said to make sure they have the correct tools for the engine etc, but anything else?
Cheers all

I am not fussed by metal impellers, hardly ever see the failure any more. I did the water pump on a 95 Corrado VR6 on Thursday and it was the original pump where the bearings had got upset about going over to G13 after a partial rebuild after 10 years in storage. Odly the pulley was seized on the nose due to rust and I had to put it in the press to get it off and the impeller shattered, then I realised it was plastic but had been perfect so 23 years old and nothing wrong with it. The other day I was looking for a suspension rattle on my Octavia shed and noticed a pink stain from the pump, to my shame/shock I realised it was eight years since I last had one of my trainees change it and that was a genuine pump with plastic impeller.

Could you keep us informed on the price as its no1 job on my list. my problem is that I have bought all the parts including tensioners, water pump and cam locks but i’m too scared to attempt it (even with instructions)

blackpool I was quoted either £700 or £750 from a local Audi specialist recently, which isnt bad as i paid £600-ish 6 years ago when it was done. Just remembered a lot of comments about the plastic water pumps giving up, but if Crasher isnt too fussed about it, I'm happy with that. Am away for a week now so will have a ring around next week for prices as have 3 or 4 local specialists to try

Quick update all (if anyone finds this while searching the forum). New cambelt, waterpump and tensioners fitted last week, £750. Was having heater issues before it was done, the indy garage told me it was down to the water pump being knackered. Flushed it through and refilled with antifreeze mix.
