dreaded chain failure on tsi engine

Morning,

I need some help with finding a very good engine supplier, been looking on the net and don't seem to be able to find a reliable supplier, reviews are terrible or are being investigated by trading standards etc.


My local garage has quoted 4k for a rebuild (vw specialists) so I'm thinking of a recon engine which will be a little cheaper. I live on the south coast near Portsmouth so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Which car, year and engine code? Personally I will not fit a reconditioned engine from anyone except VAG but a friend of mine has just fitted one in a 2009 Golf 6 GTI (EA888) we had in where the owner could not afford a genuine engine so I will ask him if it was any good and who built it. We won’t fit used engines either and initially he was going to fit a used unit but they are difficult to find low mileage AND if the engines build date is before a certain point you are crazy if you don’t rebuild the problematic chain system to the later version and that gets expensive to do correctly.
