Evening all, apologies if the correct oil questions have been answered before, but I have a few questions related to it and my car.
Recently bought a touran which I'm very happy with. However after browsing the cars full service history I noticed each service 5w30 LL fully synth has been used every time. After ringing a dealership and giving them my deets and checking numerous websites, I've concluded I have a PD engine. Why hasn't the correct oil been used all its life? The 5w40w PD stuff? 90% of these services had been carried out at a dealership? Shall I immediately arrange an oil change/filter etc?
The engine info in my handbook had the engine type BXF and also in the options section had a pr code MF7 which means =
MF7 = 4-cyl. turbo diesel eng. 1.9 L/66 kW TDIpump-jet injection system Base engine is T1T/T71/TG0.
Sorry for the long post, been on a long mission just to find out what engine oil to buy😂
Many thanks in advance

LL means Long Life and is for a PD. 5w/40 is old hat now even on standard intervals, the VW UK oil sold by TPS is LongLife 3 5w/30 or Platinum Plus 5w/30 for standard intervals.

All daft as a brush categorising via intervals .

LL3 has higher quality oil basestock groups and additive package with more detergents and dispersants ( that's more polar heads with hydrocarbon tails ! ) Detergents keep the hardware clean and dispersants hold the contaminants in suspension . Who wouldn't want a higher quality oil going in .

Even seasoned mechanics just follow archaic info or handbooks , 10W40 semi synthetic - use a 5W40 fully synthetic.

Thanks guys but I'm still confused. In my manual/handbook it says use an oil standard 505.01for the annual interval service which my vehicle has always been on. The longlife 3 doesn't approve this standard??? **** I'm confused.

Because your book was written 13 years ago and things change.
