View Full Version : Excessive pressure in coolant bottle

Good day all

A question I've been wanting to ask for quite awhile. Everytime I open the coolant cap cold, there will be a hiss/pressure release from the bottle (coolant level will rise by around 2cm). Checked the mrs' A3 (same car same engine), open the cap cold, no pressure. Checked my mates skoda fabia (which uses the same bottle), no hiss as well. Car drives fine, no burning coolant smell, no milkshake oil, no compression loss. However it does leak in random places time to time (due to old hoses or excessive pressure? I dunno). Now should I condemn the head gasket? Haven't done any combustion or compression test. Done a bit of reading and it seems a small head gasket leak would not show up in tests, and does give symptoms like mine.

Thoughts?

Mine does the same. BKD engine 206k on clock. Done it for last 100k. Never fathomed why.

Does yours have any coolant leak mate?

Top it up a smidge probably every 6 months
