Hi all, am usually on the Golf forum as that's my daily driver but also have a Passat that is throwing the above code in a scan. Car will start after a good cranking - usually, anyway - but will then die after a short while. Sometimes it will start again immediately, sometimes not even crank, although all the dash lights are there. When it won't crank at all I get the 'depress clutch' instruction on the dash, although when this happens the clutch is pushed all the way down.

Do I have two issues here? The clutch switch looks easy enough to replace on the master cylinder, but what about the 1263 error? I gather from reading around on the forum that it is not necessarily injector 2 at all that is at fault, as a scan cannot determine this.

Car has 150k but when running sounds as sweet as if it were new. Do these piezo injectors die gradually, sometimes seeming ok, or are they usually completely kaput when they go? Also, could I swap out injectors into this BKP engine from my BKD '08 Golf to check?

Many thanks for any advice

The BKD uses completely different injectors. Disconnect injector three and see if it runs continuously. I made a break out plug out of an old head harness and new car harness plug so I can do this without removing the cam cover but it is much less of an issue now than it was five years ago.

Thanks, I'll try that. If it were to run with injector 3 disconnected, would that signify simply that that injector was the culprit - or is there more to it?

If it runs, albeit with a misfire, this is the classic symptom of failure on these injectors and you need to check which part number is installed.

Thank you, that's great. I'll do the test and report findings.

Ok, the part no. is 03G130073S. I disconnected injector 3 and the car ran after prolonged cranking. It did indeed misfire, and died after about 15 secs. It would restart, but only after a lot of cranking, and died again after a similar time. There is a new fault code now, 1263 for injector 3 as well as for injector 2. Obviously when I plug inj 3 back in, presumably this new code would disappear... what does all this point to? I should add that the connector for inj 3 pretty much disintegrated as I took it off, so I'm probably looking at a new loom at least.

...and, I meant to ask before but forgot: why is it that the code for injector 2 being implausible should prompt focusing attention on/unplugging injector 3? Are the two injectors connected?

03G 130 073 S is the current correct part number for a new non exchange genuine unit. Fit a new loom first, these were SUPPOSED to be replaced with the injectors but often ended up on eBay.....

Will do, thanks. I'll report back with any results.
