Hole in gear box, is this common?

Hi All
just yesterday i sent my golf in for a new clutch. later i received a call telling me the clutch is contaminated with oil from the gearbox??? is this a common fault does anyone know or did the hole appear from other means if you know what i mean ( with a hammer and a screwdriver?) i am told that it came from the dif comparment and punchered throught the gear box casing where the clutch is thus covering it with oil.

has this happeren to any one else out there :confused:

I am due to speak to them today about replacing both Money Money :aargh4:

P. S garage is not a main dealer does this make me a bad person :(

have you got any sort of warranty on this car? where did you get the car from mate?

my brother had the exact same issue on his golf.... it's now in car heaven after throwing it back at the finance/dealer company

apparently, the bell housing and diff on these boxes (especially the 1.6 im told) were flawed in their design. my brother had 6 repairs, a reconditioned gearbox and new clutch in his, it still failed....

i dont mean to scaremonger, but make sure you do your homework and don't accept any liabiliy for the repairs if you can get a garage/dealer to do it for you.

Cheers for the reply, yep your right about the gearboxs it is the 1.4 and 1.6 which are the common ones to have this problem.I spoke to a VW private mech today about it. I'm now in the process of ordering a recon so should be back on the road early next week :arms: what a bind

Ye hopefully NOT but if i keep it for a year or so then i may ungrade to a big boy:biglaugh: GTI or TDi maybe not so big lol. I'll be keeping my eyes open to see what you guys and gells are raving about (policical collectness can't beat it):boggled:
