i have no power to my diagnostic port (1996 a4 1.8)
can anyone teel me where this obtains its power from - would an aftermarket radio even on a 1996 model (as i was led to belive that pre 1997 the radio did not power the diag port) affect this
help pls

How did you verify that there was no power? Did you plug in a diagnostic connector and was it connected to a computer with software (VAG-COM?) running? Had you switched the ignition on so that all the panel warning lights were lit? I don't think the radio has anything to do with the power supply.

yeah. i belive this guys right. you have to have the ignition on but not start the car.
also i belive theres a fuse for that...(sumwer) not sure tho....but am sure tho......no am not......i think i am......i dont knw.....

thanks guys - but should have checked the obvious first
removed the ashtray and there is a disconnected wire , so it is probably that
