Just got my Audi A4 back from its MOT today, it did PASS but with advisories on Upper Control Arm, Bushes starting to split?

I asked how easy a job this was to replace the Bushes but he said it's far easier just to replace the whole arms?

Just looked on Mr. Auto for new parts, they don't seem too expensive (about £29.00 per arm) and they seem easy to change? But where does one get new Bolts from? as they're not listed, and the garage said these normally shear off in trying to remove them :-( Also are the two arms on each side the same? as there's 4 of them in total.

Thanks

Research this job thoroughly before tackling it at home.

From what I can see it's simpler just to purchase new arms and simply swap them over? it's only a few bolts to undo? or is there tension on these arms? Did anyone change theirs at home? Obviously, I would source some new bolts as well.

First off, buy decent parts, so Lemforder or Meyle HD. You'll also need new pinch bolts. As mentioned, do your research as the pinch bolt removal will determine whether the job proceeds or not.

The pinch bolt needs to be thoroughly clean, wire brush exposed threas, and liberally spray with penetrating oil such as PlusGas a good week before attempting the job.

I've tried most methods, but with nut off, get a bar and socket on it and rotate slightly, while spraying liberally. I've read if the pinch bolt head shears, put the nut back on and pack with washers.

With the the new upper arms on, only torque once the car is down or you'll stress the bushes.
