My 3.0 tdi avant was bought brand new in 2012. Since new the sun roof has not worked well, at times refusing to open or close.
The main dealer has frequently had the car to look at the problem and has serviced or sometimes just lubricated the roof to get it working and sent me on my way.
I have repeatedly told them this is not a lube problem and there is an inherent fault. In fact I have made several posts here about this issue in the past.
The car is now 6.5 years old with only 17k on the clock and the sunroof has not worked for 8 months. So I took it back to the main dealer to get it opened. They have had the car 9 days and have informed me the roof cassette is too small and thiswas a manufacturing fault.
it has therefore been like this since new, something I have always suspected. The cost to replace cassette and motor will be £2700. Audi have agreed to meet 50% of the cost. (Fall about laughing)
i have pointed out that this is not a parts failure but a manufacturing defect I had highlighted since the first few weeks and the part was clearly not fit for purpose even when new.
I have told them I will look to resolve this matter in court as it is unlikely they have a leg to stand on.
I await their reply. In the meantime the car stays with the main dealer (who I must add is doing everything to resolve this with Audi)
What they are unaware of is the fact I was considering buying a Q8 but to be honest if this is the best Audi can do I will look at other alternatives!!

Ouch.

I would try talking to Audi Uk once more, saying you have had the car and more specifically, the roof, maintained according to the maintenance schedule.
I would also add that you have had the garage diagnose a factory fault.
Finally, I would search on the web for evidence that this is NOT an isolated case, rather a systemic failure at assembly level.
I would also look for recall bulletins with regards to the roof. (I know this is not a one-off and this site has threads about the seals letting go as a result of weather)
Mention you would rather have this settled outside of court.
Hopefully you might get a better financial agreement.
Once you have that, get back to your dealer and agree they cover some of the cost too, because of your loyalty and the fact that every time you came back to them and that you paid. And because you hope to buy a new car with them.

Thanks for coming back with some great ideas
fortunately my son is a lawyer. His advice is also to progress the matter as far as possible by discussion with Audi Uk. The main dealer is speaking to Audi one more time to see if they are prepared to sort this. If not, i shall endevour to resolve this without the need for legal intervention. However, should ths fail, as a ladt resort i will seek resolution in court. No one should suffer a defective part from new. Every time i went back to the garage, when the car was under waranty I was told it is a maintenance issue ans was even supplied with my own can of lube spray to apply as required. Now there is a chance they think i myst pay, the truth comes out that it was a defect at manufacture. Watch this space I am sure the next few weks will be interestingQUOTE=Derv_Guzzler;1101329]Ouch.
