I'm getting a tappet / hydraulic lifter noise on my 2007 mk5 1.6 fsi petrol on cold starts that slowly goes away as the engine warms up over a few minutes. When I take the engine cover off it seems to be coming from the front top of the camshaft housing over cyl 1/2. There's no chain noise from the timing cover that I can hear. It drives really well with good mpg and once warmed up is very quiet.
I've changed the high pressure fuel pump follower which had a little wear, but still have the tapping. The car has done 65000 miles, previous owner always had oil changed every year by VW, I have also changed the oil using Castrol Edge 5w30 LL.
I'd be grateful for any ideas or if someone has experienced of this noise too.
Here's a youtube clip of exactly the same noise, not my car and is no conclusion given in the comments. Many thanks

Being an FSI there can be a lot of almost diesel like top end noise, without hearing it directly it is difficult to judge. I have had some of these engines need new hydraulic elements and cam fingers, I had one in with very badly worn camshafts which are difficult to change.

Thanks Crasher. Think I'll check the oil pressure to make sure the pumps ok/not blocked next

Hi chap, sorry to reply to an old post but my car has exact same noise. 1.4 bud engine. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Thanks

The BUD is quite different to the BLF, it is belt drive as opposed to chain and port injection rather the direct FSI. I think you would get better results starting your own thread.
