Hello all.
I am looking to buy a used Passat B6, 1.8tsi petrol (160ps) of 2009, with 68.000km.
I did a small test drive today, on wet road and noticed a great deal of "axle tramp" - "wheel hopping", i.e. all front jumping up and down violently under hard acceleration. (NOT esp or traction control cutting power).
I wonder if this is a common issue and/or common specific part fault. I have read around that replacing the suspension bushings may rectify it (with polyurethane ones being best, but not for regular road use)
How much would that cost and are there any other solutions?
I understand that simply accelerating gently would solve this, but sometimes you have to pull off fast and, in any case, simple skidding is much much prefered tbh.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

With that amount of power going to the front wheels, I'm not surprised it larks around a bit - especially in the wet. The B6 chassis is known for the longevity of its tyres, and it may be that other suspension components are sacrificed to achieve this: it may be worth having someone get underneath to check for anything obvious, if the car is also skittish in the dry and with warmed tyres.

Don't let this car slip through your fingers, EU4 and 5 petrol cars are going to start being very popular soon. Fit one of these to tame the tramping BUT it may need new inserts VW Passat Mk6 Mid 08 on Powerflex Lower Engine Mount Insert (Large) PFF85-704 | eBay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Passat-Mk6-Mid-08-Powerflex-Lower-Engine-Mount-Insert-Large-PFF85-704-/370694933404?hash=item564f23cb9c)
