Firstly, hello everyone! I'm new to the forum :)

I have a 2004 MK5 golf GT TDi. The problem I'm having is that the CD player ( Standard CD Player ) works fine on short journeys but my work is almost 2 hours drive for me each day and I have noticed that after approx 30 mins - 60 mins of driving, I will try to change the CD and the one ejected will be seriously hot to the touch. I then try to put in another CD and it just keeps spitting it back out and says ' Error '... The CD player works fine as soon as the car has been standing for a while and has cooled down.

I thought this may be a common problem but after google searching various forums, I don't believe that it is that common after all! I'm guessing it has something to do with the heater matrix/controls being directly underneath the CD player but surely VW wouldn't make a silly mistake like this??

Does anyone know of a fix to this problem?

I have been looking at various double din stereos on ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/) etc but to be honest, I would rather keep everything standard with the original stereo that's already in.

Any ideas, help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all! :1zhelp:

Yes they do that as they get old, I am the same.... Remember that fitting a non genuine head unit on a Golf 5 opens a CAN ;) of worms, made even worse by your car probably having the pre 2008 CAN BUS.

Ah I see.. Thanks for the reply Crasher! I guess buying another original cd player off ebay will probably just have the same faults then. I did watch a youtube vid on replacing the head unit with a new other branded make but it looks like a bloody nightmare to swap over so I think I might just put up with it rather than cause myself more problems! :biglaugh:

The nice fix is the VAG specific Kenwood unit but it is £1k.
