Hi there i have a 1996 audi a4 tdi and it is painfully slow, i belive the problem to be the air mass meter, however there is a small black pipe that connects to the underside of a large pipe, which connects to the turbo egr and the air filter.

the small black pipe is full of oil, is this normal? i plugged it back in but it had no effect, what does this small black pipe do, any advice would be great, thanks.

Is this pipe attached to the large air intake pipe at the back of the engine, If so it sounds like it is one of the many vacuum pipes, and it is normal for them to get oil in. I would replace them, one at a time with new pipes, (doesn't cost much. They control The boost actuator and egr etc so they are pretty important and certainly won't be helping your problem. Do you have vag-com?

No i dont have vag-com (new to vw world), will replace the pipes asap, the turbo did work once when i bounced it off the limiter a few times in frustration. it went like a train but this only lasted for a few minutes. Its painfully slow, cant take it much longer as i do 130 miles a day!!
