View Full Version : Mk5 Boot doesn't open - have tried the usual issues

Hi everyone, pretty much as it says in the title, I've got a mk5 GTI 5 door and the boot no longer seems to open, to the point where I have to crawl in the back and manually release the latch.
I've searched the forum (and other sites too), have done pretty much everything in this thread Golf mk5 boot release fuse? (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/94971-Golf-mk5-boot-release-fuse) and have tried the usual suspects:

powered the boot latch with 12V directly - works
powered the boot latch from the CCM by providing 12V directly - also works
replaced the boot latch with a new one - still doesn't work
Also shorted the VW badge handle switch - still doesn't work

I'm led to believe this is a coding issue or a faulty CCM, it doesn't seem as though the wiring is damaged based on the above.

Not quite sure how to test this now, a friend with VCDS has helped activate some of the functions in "Long coding" but this hasn't made a difference.
Does anyone have any idea on what the coding should look like, or is my only option the replace the CCM?

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could offer any help.

Thanks

Were you messing with the coding before the fault appeared? If not, it's not very likely to be a coding issue.
It would more likely be a broken wire. Have you checked the wiring between the car body and the tailgate?
You've tested the motor wiring by powering the motor from the CCM connector. But you don't mention anything about the wiring between the handle and the CCM.
If the CCM isn't receiving the request to open the tailgate from the handle switch, it wont send power to the release motor in the latch.
You should be able to check that the CCM is receiving the signal from the handle switch by reading the measured values with VCDS.

Thanks for the response Flash.
Admittedly, I was attempting to activate the autolock above 10km/h feature using another software (not VCDS) and I suspect that this is what's caused the issue.
If possible, it could be useful to get the complete long code for a 5 Door RHD, manual GTI to see what it should look like?

The above guidance was really helpful, I haven't checked the wiring between the handle and the CCM physically, but using the measured values in VCDS I can see that the CCM is detecting that the handle has requested the boot to open, so it's looking more and more like a CCM issue I suspect. I will probably order a new one soon and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again :beerchug:

Quick update, I ordered a new CCM and fitted the module last week, after recoding it identically to the current one it all seems to work perfectly now!
I also had to recode the keyfob as I could no longer lock/unlock the car, which I did not know about before swapping the CCM, luckily this was pretty straightforward with VCDS.

Just thought I'd put this out there in case it could be of use to anyone else, if anyone has similar issues or wants more details feel free to give me a shout!
